After all charges against actor Empire star Jussie Smollett were dropped, the situation instantly became hot news across the country and the world.
The unexpected outcome raised many questions, and various conspiracy theories are going around regarding Smollett being cleared of all charges.
Some have pointed out his connections with authority figures and other influential members of society as possible explanations for his escape.
However, it does not look like the case is over just yet. According to new reports, the FBI has stepped in and is now investigating the situation too.
It is not clear what exactly prompted the bureau to have a look at the case, but many see this as an indication that there might be something shady beneath the surface of the whole ordeal.
Many have focused their attention on State Attorney Kim Foxx, who is suspected of being largely responsible for the decision to drop the charges against Smollett.
This includes many Chicago police officers, who have expressed their disappointment with Foxx.
However, Foxx herself maintains her stance and insists that the decision was legitimate and reasonable.
Even more perplexing, Foxx admits that Smollett could have been convicted of the charges he was facing initially.
She stated: “Based on the facts and the evidence ... This office believes that they could prove him guilty. I believe this is a just outcome based on the circumstances.”
She has also made some odd statements regarding her involvement in the case, which many have started to investigate under a microscope.
Foxx insists that she had recused herself from the case before the official decision was made, and therefore had no impact on the final decision.
State’s attorney spokeswoman Keira Ellis explained: “Foxx informally separated herself from the decision-making over the case” and did so “in an abundance of caution. The State’s Attorney did not formally recuse herself or the Office based on any actual conflict of interest. As a result, she did not have to seek the appointment of a special prosecutor.”

Many people have disputed those claims in public space, and there is an ongoing campaign on social media to pushing Foxx out.
