The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent have been renewed for another three series, ITV has confirmed today.
The mind behind the formats, Simon Cowell, expressed his delight and thanked “all the talented people” behind-the-scenes. ITV head honcho Kevin Lygo praised the “big, brilliant and wonderful” productions which remain “an important part of our schedule”. Production exec Richard Holloway declared that he was “looking forward to entertaining viewers for years to come”.
Despite their detractors, both shows continue to pull in the punters. Britain’s Got Talent 2016 scored 12.5 million viewers in the spring – its highest-rated auditions episode in seven series. The X Factor 2016’s third episode hit 10.1 million viewers when recordings were added, making it the highest-rated episode since 2014.
The X Factor continues Saturdays & Sundays on ITV, and Britain’s Got Talent returns in spring 2017 for its eleventh series.
